Waking up to find that first facial wrinkle can be an eye-opening experience. Once the first signs of aging begin setting in, many people seek a solution to help treat them and prevent new ones from forming. Injectable botulinum toxins, like Xeomin® and Botox®, have become extremely popular as a means to combat dynamic facial wrinkles that result from continued muscle contractions.
How Does Xeomin® Work?
Whether you’re smiling, frowning, or squinting, you are using muscles in your face to form these facial expressions. Over time, this continued folding and contracting of the skin results in the development of facial lines and wrinkles. Like Botox®, Xeomin® uses a purified injectable protein known as botulinum toxin to relax the underlying muscles of the face to treat current wrinkles or keep them from worsening as well as to help prevent new lines from forming.
Xeomin® can treat common issues such as:
- Frown lines (glabellar lines)
- Crow’s feet
- Muscle spasms of the eyelids (blepharospasm)
Xeomin® is very similar to Botox®. Both use botulinum toxin type A as their active ingredient, however, Xeomin® does not include some of the other accompanying proteins. When Xeomin® is injected into the underlying facial muscles, it relaxes them to decrease activity and to ease muscle contraction.
Your Xeomin® Treatment
Dr. Riolo will administer your treatment based on your expectations and goals discussed during your consultation. Treatment should take no longer than thirty minutes, and you will most likely not require any downtime afterward. Over time, you will notice lines and wrinkles begin to fade, providing for a more youthful and wrinkle-freeappearance. Xeomin® can also be combined with dermal fillers to treat deeper existing lines, wrinkles or areas of depleted facial volume.
The effects of your Xeomin® treatment are not permanent, and will require future touch-up treatments as your results begin to fade. A single treatment can last up to three months, reaching the full effect of your treatment in just 2 weeks.
