Recommended surgeries for mothers
As a plastic surgeon, I have accompanied many women in their recovery process after pregnancy, and one of the most common questions I receive in consultation is: “How can I feel comfortable with my body again?” The truth is that there are recommended surgeries for mothers depending on their individual needs and expectations.
Motherhood brings changes to the abdomen, breasts, and other areas of the body. Although exercise and a healthy diet are essential, there are cases in which sagging skin, muscle separation, or loss of breast volume can only be corrected through surgery. This is where post-pregnancy surgery makes a difference in mothers’ self-esteem and quality of life.
How to get your body back after pregnancy?
Let’s start by talking about the most recommended surgery for mothers: the Mommy Makeover. This is a complete solution, as it combines several personalized procedures, depending on the patient. It works on the areas most affected by pregnancy and breastfeeding. It usually includes Abdominoplasty, Breast Lift with or without implants, and, depending on the case, Liposuction to give greater definition to the hips, back, or thighs.
The wonderful thing about the Mommy Makeover is that it allows several body parts to be treated in a single surgery, which means a single recovery process. As an expert in surgeries recommended for mothers, I design a personalized plan that fits each woman’s body type, goals, and expectations.
It is important to note that not all women need all procedures. Some only require a Breast Lift; others, a Tummy Tuck. During the initial consultation, we will evaluate which options are most appropriate.
Abdominoplasty and Breast Lift
After pregnancy, many women notice that their abdomen does not return to its original shape. This is usually due to the separation of the abdominal muscles, excess skin, or localized fat accumulation. Abdominoplasty allows these muscles to be repaired, excess skin to be removed, and the abdominal contour to be redefined.
As for the breasts, breastfeeding and hormonal changes can lead to a loss of volume, sagging, or asymmetry. In these cases, a Breast Lift helps reposition the breast tissue, improve shape, and give a youthful appearance. In some patients, implants may be used to restore lost volume, but often the lift alone achieves very satisfactory results.
When is the right time to have surgery?
This is one of the most common questions I hear from my patients. As a general rule, I recommend waiting at least 6 months after giving birth and 3 to 6 months after finishing breastfeeding before considering any plastic surgery procedure. This time allows the body to stabilize and the tissues to regain some of their natural elasticity.
As a mother, I know how difficult it can be to take time for ourselves, but I also know how important it is to feel good about our bodies. Plastic surgery is not about going back to who you were, but about discovering your ideal version after pregnancy.
